Discovering the Environment - inside and out
Respect Protect Enjoy
An outdoor learning resource for the Foundation Phase and
key stages 2 and 3 – bringing the Countryside Code
alive.
The Countryside Code Education resource is a comprehensive
teaching resource that brings the educational benefits of outdoor
learning within easy reach of teachers, children and young people.
Complete with teachers’ guidance; at-a-glance curriculum grid;
image library; video clips; and a set of well-structured activities
for each age group, the focus of the resource is on encouraging
enthusiasm and respect for the environment as they learn about –
and through – the outdoors, whether in the school grounds, a local
green space or on a field-trip.
This online resource was developed from the original Countryside
Code education pack produced in 2005, following revision of the
original 1950s Code to reflect the changing needs of the
environment and its inhabitants in the 21st Century. The resource
has been updated by the National Foundation for Educational
Research (NFER), with extensive input from and trialing by
practicing teachers and educational specialists.
