Respect

The focus of these activities is on giving pupils a chance to
explore and learn about the outdoors. The activities provide
opportunities for pupils to undertake fieldwork in a variety of
settings e.g. local park, school wildlife area, local nature
reserve etc. They are encouraged to record their observations,
discuss them with others and draw conclusions. Each activity
consists of a detailed activity plan for the teacher’s use and
pupil worksheets. The activities included within this section
are:
Be Prepared
Discussing and prioritising essential equipment for a
countryside visit
Age range: 11-14 year olds
Group size: small groups and whole class
Setting: Indoors (as preparation for outdoor fieldwork)
Species Hunt
Using a quadrat to study two locations and record the plant
species observed
Age range: 11-14 year olds
Group size: Pairs or groups of four
Setting: Outdoors
Mapping the Facilities
Using maps to locate and compare facilities at countryside
locations
Age range: 11-14 year olds
Group size: Pairs
Setting: Outdoors and indoors (follow-up work)
Footpath Focus
Observing and recording features during a countryside walk
Age range: 11-14 year olds
Group size: Individuals or pairs
Setting: Outdoors and indoors
Worn Away
Measuring the width and depth of path erosion
Age range: 11-14 year olds
Group size: Pairs or groups of four
Setting: Outdoors and indoors (follow-up work)
